Marcy's Animal Blog- The Golden Girls - Plus One!

FROM AUNTIE M:

For the next couple of weeks I'll be with two Golden Retreivers, and a cat named Mowgli. Some of you may remember them from this summer.

I've so enjoyed watching these two Golden Retrievers respond to the cold weather! They seem to BASK in cooler temperatures!

Elderly now, by "Golden" standards, I expected their old joints to protest the chill. (Mattie will be 12 years old in March, and Ellie will be 10 in March)

Instead, both head for the front porch or the snowy yard whenever I open the front door! Golden Retreivers have a dense, thick, waterproof coat. For that reason, the colder weather seems to be more to their liking.

Mattie actually eats snow, rolls in it, and lays for a long time- happy as can be!!

Old Mattie was so busy scooping and eating, I couldn't get a still picture of her!

Ellie still takes up vigile, watching all that passes in front of the property.

Even Mowgli the "Mighty Hunter" cat gets in the act!

There is only one downside to their winter wonderland frolicking. Getting the snow "balls" out of their coats didn't look like an easy task!

Oh well, what the heck! A towel and a brush usually gets the job done in short order- a small sacrifice for their obvious enjoyment!

Mowgli, on the other hand, is a bit too quick and skittish for a towel rubdown! I haven't quite figured out a good ambush for her yet- so she's tracking bits of snow and ice for me to clean up.

The last two days the weather has warmed, turning to rain and fog! The snow has melted to slushy patches in the yard. This being said, we obviously are stuck inside! When not outside in their happy cold environment, they seem to be a bit--I'd say BORED!

Mattie's favorite spot seems to be near the kitchen!

Ellie likes to find that square of sunlight, when it's available!

And Mowgli the cat hangs out on the stairs!

I think this Auntie M will need to find "indoor games" to get the 'ol blood flowing. Or--I could just decide that they have the right idea, and take a nap!

Until next time!
