Hello! I'm Mattie! Some of you may remember me. I'm an elderly Golden Retriever, and a dog extraordinaire! I'm 13 years old, have lost a lot of my hearing, but still considered "one pretty old dame" by Auntie M!
Auntie M has come to stay for a while. Yesterday (Friday the 13th) we had a bit of unusual excitement. The day started out well. It snowed !(One of my favorite things besides eating!) I begged to go outside often, where I would lay in the snow, eating it, and basking in the cold!
As evening approached, all the lights went out! Auntie M got out candles, flashlights, and a lantern- and turned on the gas fireplace.
We ate by lantern light, and felt a bit confused as to what was going on.
Even Mowgli the cat got a lantern lit dinner!
Then we went outside. The younger Golden, Ellie loves to "watch guard" the property, and barked at a DTE man who was walking down the road. As we ran toward the street, we didn't hear the usual clicks from our electric collars! Nothing! When Auntie M called us back she was more intent on getting Ellie back in tow- (she doesn't worry too much about me) . I decided that eating more snow would be the way to go.
So there I lay, eating snow to my hearts content. All at once I see flashlights shinning in the yard. It was Auntie M- frantically calling me. As I have said, I've lost most of my hearing. I had gone between some bushes by the house, and she didn't see me. She was afraid that with the electric collar not working, I had taken off! She ought to know by now I'm too wise for that puppy type foolishness!
We spent the rest of the evening sitting by the fireplace, with Auntie M talking to us and taking stock of what was available Given that the electricity was gone, and living in the country means even water doesn't come without the pump!
At about 9 p.m. the lights came on. Auntie M felt more comfortable letting us outside on our own. Guess she didn't want to "loose" me again, though I was never truly lost!
These humans sure do rely on that electricity! Except for the electric fence, I could care less! I think an evening by candlelight is pretty nice!
Meanwhile I'll sit outside in the snow, enjoying the cold!
That's Ellie on the left, with me laying in that wonderful cold snow! |
More snow is here today, which makes me happy! Auntie M feels about warm weather the way I feel about snow! Love, Love, Love!
No matter your temperature preference, you humans stay safe and warm, and have a good day!
