A Tribute to Maddie- Golden Retriever Extraordinaire

Maddie - Golden retriever was a wonderful old dame! Wise and laid back, she gave quiet comfort to all.

Maddie went to live with her humans when she was six weeks old. A while later they got another Golden Retriever named Elli, who became like a daughter to Maddie.

Maddie had the attitude that everything was fine. I'm not sure, but she didn't seem to worry about too much. Even when Ellie would like to bark at pets and people passing by, Maddie seemed to join in only halfheartedly.

She had the most beautiful, silky coat. Her fur was a golden red, and stayed thick and beautiful, even as she aged.

I got to know Maddie and her fellow furry companion Ellie several years ago. I have been their "Auntie M" each time their humans went on a trip. At first we went on long morning walks together. Ellie would want to go and go forever. When Maddie was "done", she would simply sit down and refuse to budge until we'd head for home. As time progressed and Maddie's age got the best of her, the walks for her got shorter and shorter. But her sweet disposition stayed the same.

Maddie has always been such a delightful, laid back, and easy soul- as if to say "Don't sweat the small stuff! Just take a nap!"

A little while ago, at the age of 12, Maddie could no longer stand up. She was just too old and weak. Her humans laid down blankets and laid beside her, comforting her and loving on her to the end. They were truly blessed to have such a loyal and loving companion. And she was equally lucky to have such wonderful humans to share her life with! Below is a cartoon that I cherish- for it's how I believe the after life will be.

Thank You, Maddie, for being who you were! You will be missed- but the memories are good ones! Death can't take those away!
