My Animal Blog- Ricco Chihuahua Clears The Air!

You recently heard from my friend and pal, Ruby Beagle! She said that being a year older than me makes her the "spokes-dog"of the three of us canines! She is mistaken! She's just been hanging with our humans too long!

In the canine world, age or size does not determine "leader of the pack"! It's attitude! So, with respect to Ruby- I Am LEADER OF THE PACK! (Yes, that was said with a bark of authority!)

I stay close to Ruby- it's true! How else do I protect her?

Am I thrilled to have that huge baby named Blu join the pack? Hmm. How do I say this? At first I was really miffed! Did the humans ask me first? Nope!

So- shortly after "baby Blu" came to join us, Auntie M came to stay a few days! I was NOT a happy camper! Who was this woman, anyway?! This new large canine pup was hard enough- but now a new human was here- and SHE silently declared to us that while she was here, SHE was leader of the pack! It was almost more than a Chihuahua could bear!

To say I pouted was an understatement! Blu took to gnawing at Ruby and tried to gnaw at me as if I was a stuffed toy!

From the beginning she has generally made a nuisance of herself!

Now, I've always had to guard my food from Ruby! She tends to "finish" my food if I even think of walking (or looking) away! But baby Blu would just push me out! Too much, I say! Too much!

But, I need to tell you when Auntie M first won me over. It was meal time. She fed all three of us. Then she stood guard, and made sure NO ONE ate my food except me! She scolded Blu for trying and even warned Ruby that it was not lady like to steal food!

That evening, after Auntie M took us all out for bathroom and exercise, she sat in our family room and sort of talked to us. By "sort of", I mean she sent mental messages to us that all was well and she'd take good care of us.

I know I sound like a push over, but I ended up snuggling next to this nice lady. It was just so restful! And with Blu around, we all needed our rest!

It's gotten harder and harder to get away and take a nap! At first Blu couldn't get up on the couch, so Ruby and I were at least safe there!

But Blu has grown so fast! It didn't take long! It seemed that in a few short weeks Blu was invading our safe place! Grrrrr!

Auntie M has come to stay a few more times, and that's o.k. by me. She spent a lot of time working with Blu, exercising Blu, and getting Blu out for the bathroom. But that puppy needs to calm down and grow up! ( I guess you can tell that my nose is a bit out of joint! O.k.- a LOT out of joint!) Ruby has a better handle on this puppy thing than I do! Sometimes I wonder how any canine that long and lanky will ever grow up to be a lady, but I guess that's the job of our humans.

Speaking of our humans- Our Male human is spending a lot of MY quality time with puppy Blu! What's a Chihuahua to do?! On one hand, I want her to be trained- but on the other hand, does it really have to be MY humans that do it? Grrr again! Auntie M has tried to convey to me that the time will come when we will be a trio of pals! ---I doubt it!

Meanwhile, Ruby and I continue to hang out and keep company.

That's me at Auntie M's feet, respectfully requesting lap time!

Auntie M will come again, I'm sure. And perhaps she'll let me sit next to her and snuggle again!

So- I hope I've cleared the air! I am leader of the pack- small but mighty! Ruby may be senior, but I rule! And that pup baby Blu will have to learn that it's not size that matters!

                                                         IT'S ATTITUDE!!
